Medha Patkar rushed to hospital

MUMBAI, APRIL, 3. The fasting Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Ms. Medha Patkar, and her two collegues were rushed to a hospital at Dhule in north Maharashtra when they suffered low blood sugar.

She had been on fast in front of the Nandurbar Collectorate since five days demanding a joint survey of the land claimed to be available for resettlement of Sardar Sarovar dam oustees by the State Government.

According to police, the condition of the NBA leader has ``considerably improved.' An offence under Sec. 309 of IPC has been registered against Ms. Patkar and her two fasting collegues.

Meanwhile, nearly 116 persons were arrested on charges of rioting in Nandurbar, police said. Thirtytwo women who were taken into custody were sent to Navapur prison while others were shifted to Khandbara.

The NBA also charged the police of roughing up a number of villagers and activists.
