NBA activists hold demo outside SC
HTC
(New Delhi)

Close to 300 activists of the Narmada Bachao Andolan held a demonstration outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday, blocking the main entrance. In the evening, the police removed the activists, comprising both tribals and non-tribals, and took them to the nearby police station. They were, however, released without either being detained or arrested.

Led by Medha Patkar, along with Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy and Swami Agnivesh, the tribals protested the October 18 verdict of the Supreme Court that allowed the height of the controversial dam to be raised to 90 metres. Swami Agnivesh said: "This judgement has put Supreme Court itself in the dock. It (the judgement) is not just against the Narmada Bachao Andolan. It is against the Constitution and the Right to Live. A right that comes from God, not from the Supreme Court or the Constitution."

Social activist Medha Patkar and Arundhati Roy were also present.
