SC reserves order on case against Arundhati, NBA
HT Correspondent (New Delhi, August 25)
The Supreme Court today reserved its order on the course of action against Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy and Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar for their “derogatory” comments on an apex court ruling on Sardar Sarovar dam.
A three-Judge Bench comprising Chief Justice A. S. Anand, Justice S. P. Bharucha and Justice B. N. Kirpal also sought a report within two weeks from the Gujarat Government about the number of resettled oustees and the relief provided to them.
The court asked senior counsel Harish Salve representing Gujarat to indicate in the report the nature of complaints the Grievance Redressal Authority had received from the oustees and how many of them have been dealt with.
