"Rally for Valley" reaches Jalsindhi

ALIRAJPUR: The 'Rally for Valley' of anti-dam activists led by Booker prize winner Arundhati Roy has reached its destination Jalsindhi where Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar was observing a fast. At Jalsindhi, Patkar explained to the rallyists 'the impending holocaust which would uproot the tribals' in the region, reports PTI.

The activists were on their way back to Kakarana by boats after a day's halt at Jalsindhi. About 150 activists from across the world boarded the boats at 1500 hours today. An NBA spokesman told PTI at Badwani that the rallyists returning from Jalsindhi would halt at Chikalda. According to a report received here, the anti-dam activists who were supposed to reach Jalsindhi by foot from Mathawada did not trek the distance of 15 kms and were camping at Mathawada.

The anti-dam activists are expected to return to Indore tomorrow where they would have a meeting at Visarjan Ashram.
