MUMBAI: Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar along with around 50 NBA activists and villagers was arrested today at Domkhedi on the banks of river Narmada in Maharashtra, an NBA spokesperson said here tonight. The NBA leader, who was camping there in protest against increasing the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam, was arrested this evening following the rise in level of Narmada waters and was shifted to a safer place at Dadgaon, the spokesperson told PTI.

Initially the NBA activists and the villagers refused to move and later they were arrested, she said. The NBA will continue its agitational programmes and the satyagraha at Jalsindhi in Madhya Pradesh and Domkhedi will go on, she said. The state police control, when contacted, said Patkar and others were arrested at 6:30pm and have been shifted to a safer place.
