Arundhati Roy back in Narmada valley

INDORE: Booker prize winner Arundhati Roy, who led the 'Rally for Valley' last week, returned to Narmada valley today even as the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Pedha Patkar, along with 50 other NBA activists, was arrested by the Maharashtra police at Domkhedi yesterday, reports PTI.

The Jhabua Superintendent of Police (SP), G S Meena told PTI that Roy along with NBA activist Chittarupa Palit and film producer Anurag Singh airdashed here yesterday and after a brief halt left for Barwani district on their way to Jalsindhi.

They would proceed to Kakarana via Alirajpur and then to Jalsindhi via boat following refusal by Gujarat government to allow them to reach the spot via Hapeshwar, he added. Elaborate arrangements have been made at Kakarana to ensure roy's safe journey to Jalsindhi, he said. Meanwhile, an NBA spokesman here said Medha Patkar has been taken by Maharashtra police to Dhadgaon in Nandurbar district. A second batch of NBA activists had replaced those taken to Dhadgaon, he added.
