BJP plans to organise kumbh rally on June 3

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

VADODARA, MAY 31: Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take out a kumbh rally from Nareshwar on June 3 to sensitize people about the importance of water. The rally would cross various parts of the state.

Party workers led by state general secretary Govardhan Zadapia and state president Rajendrasinh Rana would fill as many as 5,000 kumbhs from Narmada and the water would be poured into various check dams which have been constructed. This water would also be poured into the ponds and lakes in various parts of the state.

This water would also be treated as holy water and a holy prayer would also be held so that it was preserved in these places wherever it was poured. Addressing reporters here on Wednesday Zadapia said, ``The water would be poured in various check dams and the people would also be told about it so that every person in the state realise the importance of water.''

Zadapia stressed on the need of water harvesting and said that it was the need of time. ``Water harvesting could prevent such drought situations in the state in the future,'' said Zadapia. Zadapia added that the party at present was primarily interested about the flow of water from Naramada so that it could reach people in various parts of the state. ``At present the height of the dam was not a criteria but people from every part of the state should have adequate water, which was a difficulty in various parts of the state at present,'' said Zadapia.

He added that although just one water train had been flagged off from Bharuch there were other water trains, which were being carried from Amreli and other parts of the state for the drought prone regions.

The party was also working on issues so that such a situation could be prevented during the next summer. The party leaders have also decided to plant five trees per person during the whole of monsoon.

``Many people could term it as a political gimmick but anything which is eco-friendly and would be good for the environment would be taken up,'' said Zadapia. He added by the end of the monsoon season the target was to plant as many as five lakh trees in various parts of the state.
