Members of the Narmada Bachao Andolan today met President K R Narayanan. They urged him to intervene to stop construction on the controversial Sardar Sarovar Dam. Petitioning the President was among the last few alternatives left with the NBA. The NBA also plans to present its case once again before the World Commission on Dams, which is meeting on Thursday in London. According to Medha Patkar, Narmada Bachao Andolan, "The President has powers which he can use with the help of the people of the Narmada valley which can sink this year itself. He has showed a lot of concern on the issue. It seems he is interested in the issue and will also refer the matter to the Prime Minister."
