Kar seva on Dec 4: Joshi

AHMEDABAD: Farmer leader Sharad Joshi on Thursday said that despite the prohibitory orders imposed by the Gujarat government at the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam site area, kar seva would be performed there on December 4.

Joshi said he decided to organise the kar seva as he felt that there was big coverage to the anti-dam activities and not to the pro-dam. He said he wanted to show the world that there are a large number of people here who were in favour of the dam.

He alleged that the chief minister was opposing kar seva to comfort Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar. He criticised the state government for not providing the civic amenities and transport arrangement for the kar sevaks. When pointed out that it was the job of the organisers to organise transport arrangements, Joshi claimed that he was denied the bookings of public transport.

Joshi claimed that at least two lakh people would participate in the kar seva. He said former minister and Congress leader Sanat Mehta would lead one of the teams of the kar sevaks. He claimed that the Nationalist Congress Party had supported his agitation but right now its president Sharad Pawar was busy in providing assistance to the cyclone affected people of Orissa.
