Medha reiterates her resolve for `jal samarpan'
MUMBAI: Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar on Friday reiterated her resolve for a `jal samarpan' if the government continued work on the Sardar Sarovar project, an NBA press statement said.
Ms Patkar, who is presently locked up in Dhule jail, declared this in a meeting with a senior Central government officer, deputed by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and a Maharashtra government officer.
Sanjay Sangvai of the NBA said assistant secretary from the PMO Aditi Mehta and state rehabilitation officer Mr Sinha met Ms Patkar in the Dhule jail.
During the meeting, Ms Patkar apprised the officers of the problems of resettlement and displacement of project affected villagers, the press statement said.
He added that Ms Patkar informed that the state government had passed on wrong information on the entire issue to the Centre. She also warned that villagers and NBA activists would be forced to take `jal samarpan' if the work on the dam continues, Mr Sangvai stated.
He added that the NBA's satyagraha against the submergence and displacement of the Domkhedi village in Maharashtra continued with 40 other activists from other organisations joining the ranks.
