With the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh continuing to ignore their demands, the people affected by the Maheshwar dam occupied the dam site on Jan 11 2000. This occupation was carried out more than 4,500 people on the second anniversary of a similar protest. Contrary to reports in the Indian press, more than 1,500 people were arrested. The Govt. however, continues to evade the real questions that the people have posed.
