Recently, while most of the world was unaware, a dramatic struggle was going on in the Narmada Valley. On September 21 1999, for the third time, the waters of the Narmada impounded by the Sardar Sarovar dam, flooded the valley. In Domkhedi, protestors stuck to their vow of facing the rising waters rather than leave. When the waters rose dangerously upto the shoulders of the activists, the Govt. of Maharashtra chose to forcibly arrest them.

Photographers Harikrishna and Deepa Jani brought back for us pictures of this historic struggle.
