Badwani: During a hearing on interim petition filed by Narmada Bachao Andolan in Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) High Court, Jabalpur, the bench consisting of Chief Justice A. K. Patnayak and Justice Ajit Singh has ordered M.P. Government to provide the Justice (empowered) S.S.Jha committee with required officers, police and PWD department officers to commence its investigation on the issue of fake registries and corruption in resettlement of Sardar Sarovar Project Affected. They (officers) should be provided with required facilities so that the Committee can commence its operations within fifteen days.

It is known that Narmada Bachao Andolan had filed an interim petition in the High Court on November 5, 2008 pleading that GoMP has not employed officers and other staff required for the functioning of Justice S.S.Jha investigation Committee, due to which the aforesaid committee has failed to commence its work even after five months of formation, whereas the Honourable Court had ordered the Committee to submit its report within six months from its formation.

In its recent order, the Court has extended the tenure of the Committee by six months more. It has further added that the committee should submit a Progress Report on February 17, 2009 on which, the Court will issue further orders on February 19, 2009.

Leader of Narmada Bachao Andolan Ms. Medha Patkar is satisfied with this important order of the High Court. She has called it a victory of the displaced. She hopes that S.S.Jha committee can commence its work soon. The concerned appeal was defended by Abhijeet Bhaumik and Medha Patkar.
