As the Narmada Satyagraha against the submergence would be almost a month-old, the people affected by dams in Southern Africa will be observing August 1 as the It would be the day of fasting and switching off electricity for 24 hours in solidarity with people facing submergence because of the Sardar Sarovar Dam in India.

Africa Dams would be co-ordinating the Africa Day of the Narmada. It has called on all environmentalists, friends, volunteers, family, interns all over the world, and " those doing duties in space", to join in the Africa Day of the Narmada on August 1. It appealed, " The dam-affected people and NGOs in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique have declared a 24-hour fast on food and electricity starting 00:00hr on August 1 to 24:00 hr on August 1. They will switch off everything electronic including cell-phones and will survive only on water for drinking".

Similar solidarity protests have taken place during the Satyagraha period in Sri Lanka and in the US during the last two weeks. In Sri Lanka, members of the Friends of the Third World, a coalition of People's Organisations, Trade Unions and NGOs, held a demonstration in front of the Indian High Commission.
