With the monsoon rains underway in India, many areas of the Narmada
valley are under the threat of
submergence due to the Sardar Sarovar dam. Once again, the
Narmada Bachao Andolan has embarked on a non-violent struggle to assert the
rights of the people. This collective assertion
is in the form of a satyagraha. Since July 15, activists and their
supporters from all over India and different parts of the world are
living in the villages of Domkhedi (Maharashtra) and Jalsindhi (Madhya Pradesh),
determined not to leave their houses when the waters rise but to stay and
assert their rights by facing the waters.
